About fluconazole

What does it do?

Thrush is a fungal infection, commonly caused by a type of yeast called candida. Although candida is naturally present in the body, an imbalance can trigger thrush symptoms. Fluconazole 150mg (also known as Diflucan and other brand names) kills certain types of fungi and restores your body's natural balance.

Taking fluconazole for the first time

Fluconazole treatment for thrush is simple - just one capsule to be swallowed with a glass of water. You can take this medicine at any time of day, with or without a meal.

How effective is it?

Women taking fluconazole should see an improvement within a few days. Some women will notice improvement in 24 hours.

For men, the condition can take a little longer to clear up. The symptoms should clear up within a few days, although this can take up to a week.

If your condition hasn't cleared up within one week, you should consult a doctor.

Cautions when using fluconazole

Thrush is an infection which can occur without sexual contact, so it is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, the infection can be passed on during sex, so it is recommended that you should not have sex until the infection has cleared up.

If you regularly suffer from thrush, then it's advisable that both you and your partner have thrush treatment at the same time.

Taking too much can make you unwell, so contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you take more than you should.

  • Suffer from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems.
  • Have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.

There is a very rare theoretical risk of abnormal heart rhythm if fluconazole is taken at the same time as some other medications -.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use

For use in the diagnosis, the usual adult daily dose is 50mg, taken at least 1 hour before a medical procedure (such as orchidade).

For the diagnosis of candida infections, the usual adult daily dose is 100mg, taken 1 to 2 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after a fungal infection (colds, dimethoate supplements, or diprooride).

For the treatment of thrush, the usual adult daily dose is 100mg taken 1 to 2 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after a fungal infection (colds, dimethoate supplements, or diprooride).

For the treatment of vaginal yeast infections, the usual adult daily dose is 100mg (one capsule a day), taken 1 to 2 hours before or 2 to 3 hours after a fungal infection (tidacam).

Dosage and Administration

The tablet should be swallowed whole with liquid. It can be taken with or without food. If you are unsure or have trouble swallowing, your doctor may give you a dose of one tablet, or a liquid tablet, and take it as directed. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Contraindications

The following contraindications apply to Diflucan tablet:

  • it is not effective in treating vaginal yeast infections or candidiasis
  • it may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, constipation or upset stomach
  • it may cause side effects such as loss of appetite or weight loss, nausea, drowsiness
  • it may cause dizziness or tiredness, or dizziness, when taking Diflucan
  • dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea may occur when taking Diflucan
  • it may cause side effects such as loss of appetite or weight loss, nausea, dizziness, diarrhoea, increased tiredness, light-headedness, headache, dizziness, or fainting, dry mouth, constipation, upset stomach, indigestion, or upset stomach

Precautions

Do not use Diflucan if you have ever had liver or kidney disease. If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking Diflucan and call your doctor:

  • fever
  • malaise
  • tiredness
  • dry mouth
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • nausea
  • drowsiness
  • indigestion
  • constipation
  • dry skin

Stop taking Diflucan and call your doctor if you experience the following:

  • severe skin reaction, including blistering of the lips, face, or tongue
  • severe itching or rash
  • severe dizziness
  • severe tiredness or weakness
  • swelling of the ankles or legs, or difficulty breathing, unusual bleeding or bruising

Do not use this medication if you are under 18 or have a condition that could make it dangerous to a pregnancy, while taking it. In this case, your doctor will decide how you will use the medication.

Avoid alcohol while on Diflucan, as it may increase the risk of side effects. If you have alcohol use disorder, you may also need to avoid alcohol when taking Diflucan.

Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

You may be able to use this medication to relieve symptoms of an infection in a single organ.
